On July 3rd of 2002, I subbed my first ever yoga class. I had been a lurker for a few classes over the years, but I started a serious practice in October of 2001. By July I had only completed half of the Teacher Training 200hr. program led by Karin O’Bannon at the present Yoga Works in OC. Never one to hesitate at flirting with humiliation and disaster, when my teacher Diana recruited me to teach for Yoga Place at the time, I jumped at the first sub opportunity they called me for. I knew it was the studio owners habit to let a new teacher sub a class and attend to “audition” them out before getting any actual classes. That morning I only had one student for that class in Laguna, and it was Randi Beck, boss lady and mother hen of Yoga Place. My first class was a ninety minute private with my potential boss. My heart goes right to the throat when I reminisce… Randi was very kind, and I must not have sucked because I was given a few classes at Mission Viejo right away, for Ashtanga. That’s my story…
But thank you will never quite cover the limitless gratitude I have for getting to play with you. Getting to show you how to live more comfortably inside your bodies, showing you how to discover all those hidden tricks and gifts we carry. Reading you poetry and playing you amazing music, and sharing moments of transformation, break throughs, break downs, injuries, illnesses and conditions to explore and learn from. I really love this. I really love you guys. I really do.
Please come and share my 7 year cycle, my 7th anniversary…I don’t know why this is so poignant..this is the most fulfilling relationship I’ve ever known. Here’s to us!
