Little surfer girl….

25 08 2009

August 18-20 I had the immense pleasure and honor of teaching some girls to surf down at San Onofre. One of the best things I did this summer…and mind you I went to Shasta with Tim Miller on yoga retreat, and saw NIN, Depeche Mode, and TOOL live! All the girls stood up on their first day out. I am proud to be part of the next generation of shredding surfer girls! Here are some pics…

There’s someone in my head, but it’s not me…

23 07 2009

I know we have all felt this way, the mind monkeys, the inner critic, the saboteur, the ego struggling to keep you reactive and stuck in your story, lost in the drama. And when we begin to challenge this, man do they start flinging…poo! {so to speak} But when we are able to pull back on the camera lens and see the twists of conciousness, the citta vritti, for what they are…veils, covers, chains…we feel the space of awareness. This is intrinsically what our yoga practice is designed to do. To focus you on the present by watching the breath. To clean the vessel, so we aren’t so comfortably numb or toxic. To hone our skills to respond rather than to react, to detach, to move with the universal flow…

Found my new favorite Rumi in class this morning, ” God blows on the world-reed, each note of longing, passion, to be felt through us! BE YOUR NOTE… Remember the source of this wind-breath.”

If you want to see me toot my horn, I’ll be doing a demo for Yoga Works at the US Surf Open in Huntington Beach this Saturday @ 4pm in the athletes tent.

She moves in mysterious ways…

9 07 2009

In some groups, I am known as “Showtime” or “DQ” {drama queen}…There is a performers heart wedged into this yogini’s body, and that is why “Rocktanga” exists. I’ll be the guest on the Duke Fightmaster Show this Friday July 10th, the yoga episode. I’ll be sharing the wealth of knowledge I thank my teachers for, I’ll be showing off the crazy tricks in this fool’s bag, I’ll not be taking myself too seriously. Mysterious, not serious…

And for public heckling…. I’m just gonna throw down my mat, throw on some Doors, and rock it out at Main Beach in Laguna this Saturday 7/11 @ 3pm. Come by and I’ll take requests until I get asked to leave!

Come as you are…

1 07 2009

On July 3rd of 2002, I subbed my first ever yoga class. I had been a lurker for a few classes over the years, but I started a serious practice in October of 2001. By July I had only completed half of the Teacher Training 200hr. program led by Karin O’Bannon at the present Yoga Works in OC. Never one to hesitate at flirting with humiliation and disaster, when my teacher Diana recruited me to teach for Yoga Place at the time, I jumped at the first sub opportunity they called me for. I knew it was the studio owners habit to let a new teacher sub a class and attend to “audition” them out before getting any actual classes. That morning I only had one student for that class in Laguna, and it was Randi Beck, boss lady and mother hen of Yoga Place. My first class was a ninety minute private with my potential boss. My heart goes right to the throat when I reminisce… Randi was very kind, and I must not have sucked because I was given a few classes at Mission Viejo right away, for Ashtanga. That’s my story…

But thank you will never quite cover the limitless gratitude I have for getting to play with you. Getting to show you how to live more comfortably inside your bodies, showing you how to discover all those hidden tricks and gifts we carry. Reading you poetry and playing you amazing music, and sharing moments of transformation, break throughs, break downs, injuries, illnesses and conditions to explore and learn from. I really love this. I really love you guys. I really do.

Please come and share my 7 year cycle, my 7th anniversary…I don’t know why this is so poignant..this is the most fulfilling relationship I’ve ever known. Here’s to us!
July 3rd:
6:30am Vinyasa 2 Mission Viejo Yoga Works
9am Vinyasa 2/3 Costa Mesa Yoga Works
12pm Vinyasa 2 MVYW
5pm Vinyasa 1/2 MVYW
6:30pm Ashtanga Prep MVYW

“In your light I learn how to love, In your beauty, how to make poetry. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but sometimes, I do. And that sight creates this art.” RUMI
